Meet Chief of Staff Joseph J. Addie, Jr. He received Montgomery's "Firefighter of the Year" award for 2020 and was our nominee for SERVPRO’s National First Responder Award.
SERVPRO is a proud supporter of the nation’s first responders. For the last 3 years, SERVPRO has presented the award to honor the many men and women who rush into danger while everyone else rushes out.
On December 23rd, we had the pleasure of presenting Chief of Staff Addie with SERVPRO’s First Responder Award for the Montgomery area as his family proudly looked on. Chief of Staff Addie has dedicated the last 37 years of his life to serving the residents of Montgomery in various and challenging capacities within the Montgomery Fire and Rescue Department.
He began his career with the department as a member of the Hazardous Materials response team in 1983. Since then, he has received several promotions and held positions such as Fire Sergeant, Fire Captain, District Fire Chief over the Training Division, Director of Training, Deputy Fire Chief, and much more. As of August 23rd of 2019, he holds the title of “Chief of Staff,” replacing the retiring Chief of Staff J.L. Petrey. Throughout his career Chief of Staff Addie has shown exceptional work ethic.
“I never realized how committed I would feel about serving others. It is this commitment that keeps me here today,” Chief of Staff Addie said. “When people ask when I am going to retire, I am unable to give a time frame. It is difficult to plan a retirement date when you love what you do, and I truly love what I do.”
Leading up to the event, we had the pleasure of speaking to Chief of Staff Addie on a few occasions. During these encounters he was polite, friendly, and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community.
Thank you for your service, and we wish you the best in all that you do.
